Welcome!

2/15/2012  Welcome to our very own website for Ladies Sing the Blues!  I can't believe that we're up and running.  Thanks so much to Sande Caplin and Associates for donating this website.  Over the past year we have worked so hard supporting "local charities" with  our "local ladies"......Singing the Blues.  Our area has some of the most talented singers and we are so blessed to have them support our wonderful cause.  The next event is May 23 at the Flying Dog Cafe.  Please watch this website for details and don't forget to support our Facebook site.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me via the contact us page on this website.  Also, we welcome you to blog right here and you will certainly have this site to let everyone know what is going on around town.  All the best and thank you for supporting our cause.  Steve Arvey

5/26/2012-On May 23, 2012, 18 of the best lady "blues singers" along with Steve Arvey & Mike Hensley performed at the Flying Dog Cafe. All donations went to the NEO NATAL Unit at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. I am proud to say that "Ladies Sing the Blues" was a huge success. The love at the "Dog" that night was overwhelming....lots of smiles, some tears and most of all great memories. Here is a 15 minute slide show of the event that I was so proud to be a part of.....we did it right!  Sande Caplin

6/11/2012- I had the pleasure of working in many capacities on the Ladies Sing The Blues fundraising event to raise money for the NICU at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on May 23, 2012. I pretty much know the knockout lady singers who graced the stage at The Flying Dog Café that night, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see a newcomer to the Sarasota music scene, and her name is Karyn Denham.

She likes to think that even without formal training she has had the good fortune to be in the right place at the right time. She enjoys surrounding herself with really fine talent, like the entire musical entourage at Ladies Sings the Blues. In her own words “I’ve never had a band of my own, but about a year or so ago, I recorded some backing tracks and a duet with Tommy McCoy on his latest CD, called Late in The Lonely Night. Earwig Records picked it up, and now suddenly I’m a “recording artist”, lol!

Karyn has worked as a teacher for the Pinellas County School District for 6 years and has been the dance team coach for 5 years, as well. She loves helping young minds grow. Karyn earned a bachelor’s degree in science and worked as a laboratory scientist and then, a teacher. Her greatest accomplishments will always be her children and she’s grateful she got to stay at home with them in their formative years.

Denham says "the blues have been with me since my childhood. My parents taught me how to jitterbug in the living room when I was 5. Dance was and still is a big part of my life. We always sang in our home growing up."

Talent is all around us in the Sarasota /Bradenton area and beyond. I predict we will hear more of this very talented blues singer, Karyn Denham, in the future. It just goes to show that you never know how talented your kids’ teacher could be, or the guy who drives the school bus, or your next door neighbor! blog by Sande Caplin
